Dr. William H. Whitaker, II is one of God’s servants who has dedicated his life and ministry to strengthening both the church and all who serve within it. A native of Roanoke, Virginia, his career spans across cultural and denominational lines as he has served in the areas of Pastor and the Ministry of Administration within both predominately black and white congregations and in Baptist, Presbyterian, African American Episcopal (AME), and Southern Baptist churches.
Dr. Whitaker along with his wife, the Reverend Maria Whitaker are the thankful co - founders of the Covenant Fellowship Baptist Church in Chesterfield, Virginia. He works tirelessly in the religious community to support and train pastors, clergy, and leadership for ministry service. He is the Church Business Manager for the historic First Baptist Church, South Richmond where Dr. Dwight C. Jones is the Sr. Pastor and Dr. Derik E. Jones is the Pastor. Additionally, he is an Instructor of Church Finance & Administration at the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University and the Ministry Training Track instructor for the Baptist General Convention of Virginia.
Dr. Whitaker began ministry consulting with churches and ministers’ conferences in the summer of 1997 under the business name of The Elijah Project. In the year of 2000, Dr. Whitaker expanded his consulting to include working in churches under the business name of CBA1, The Church Business Administration Network. Today, Dr. Whitaker has created the concept of Ministry Based Consulting (MBC) [www.mbc.team] as he seeks to unite ministers and churches with affordable ministry opportunities at a reduced cost to churches.
Educationally, Dr. Whitaker received the Bachelors of Business degree in Computer Information Systems from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, the Master of Divinity degree from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia, and the Doctor of Ministry Degree from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Whitaker is a published author having written several Church Business Management related books and ministry training manuals.
Of the many accomplishments God has placed in Dr. Whitaker's life, he considers his family to be his greatest. Dr. Whitaker has been married to Maria Denise Whitaker for 25 years and they have two wonderful children, Lauren McKenzie Whitaker (14) and William (Will) Howard Whitaker, III (12)
Reverend Maria Whitaker is a native of Chesapeake, Virginia. She accepted her call to ministry in 2007 and was licensed in July of 2010 at First Baptist Church, South Richmond under the pastoral leadership of Sr. Pastor Dwight C. Jones and Pastor Derik E. Jones.
She is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a Masters of Teaching and extensive post-graduate coursework in counseling. She is also a May 2019 graduate of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology where she received the Master of Divinity. She is an advocate of education in both the church and the community serving in varied teaching and leading roles in both the schools and church ministries. Reverend Whitaker has taught English and Reading in the public school system on both the middle school and high school levels; has served as a discussion leader/class facilitator in an international interdenominational woman’s Bible study for those seeking to deepen their relationship with God; and has served as a conference facilitator for various churches in the central Virginia area.
She has a special gift for understanding and caring for the emotional needs of people. Whether it be a student in her classroom or a random adult in the grocery store, Rev. Whitaker seeks to empower people to love self the way that God loves each of us. She believes in Christ’s redeeming power for us all and witnesses to spread the Word of that uncompromising love.
She is married to Rev. Dr. William Whitaker, II and serves in ministry with him at Covenant Fellowship Baptist Church in Richmond, VA as Assistant Pastor. They are the proud parents of two children, Lauren McKenzie and William Howard, III.
